First Grade

    Hi, I 'm Joy McSpadden and I teach first grade at Valley View.

    First grade is a wonderful time of learning. In first grade, we learn to read, write, and do math.

    We have a ninety minute reading block everyday. During, reading block students  go to different literacy centers,  have small group instruction, and whole group instruction. Please listen and help your child read the books they bring home.

    Of course, we can't leave math out. We work on math for an hour each day.

    We also do science, social studies, P.E., music, lunch, computer lab, guidance, and some art.

    You can see that we are very busy in first grade. So making sure your child gets to bed early is very important!
